One basic way is to visit neighboring restaurants and look into their ingredient stocks. If the ingredient is not padlocked, you can freely exchange it with one of yours.
If the ingredient has a padlock, trading is still applicable. However, you would have to send a note to the restaurant's owner and wait for his / her approval.
If the ingredient you are looking for is not in any of your restaurant owner friends, you can also visit the market vendor. He can be seen waving ingredients on the right side of your restaurant.
But it is still best to just wait for your desired ingredient to either be awarded to you in the daily quiz or traded with one of yours from other resto owners because the ingredient prices in the market is way too high. You might as well use the money to buy some furniture.
